Okpebholo Suspends Attorney-General,  LG Commission Chairman Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

The Edo State Government has announced the suspension of its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, over alleged financial misconduct.

Osagie and Lawani were appointed to their respective positions two months ago.

Confirming the suspension in a statement on Thursday, February 6, in Benin, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, announced that the suspension takes immediate effect due to serious official and financial misconduct.

He revealed that the decision was approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo and will remain in place until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.

“The suspension of Osagie and Lawani became necessary to enable the Government carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation of financial infractions levelled against them.” He said.

Ikhikor also added that an Investigative Committee has been set up to probe the claims and provide recommendations based on their findings.
