Okowa, Nwoko Set for Delta North Showdown as 2027 Battle Heats Up
Senator Ned Nwoko on Friday said the 2027 election for the Delta North Senatorial seat would be open to all contenders but expressed confidence in securing victory to retain the seat in the 11th Assembly under the All Progressives Congress, citing his performance and the backing of the Anioma people.
Accompanied by former Deputy Senate President, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Nwoko made his re-election declaration upon arrival at Asaba Airport, stressing that the Anioma people are determined to move away from what he described as “old-style politics.”
Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, also declared his intention to contest the Delta North senatorial seat in the 2027 general election under the All Progressives Congress. Okowa made the announcement at his residence in Asaba during a visit by political leaders from the Delta North senatorial district.
Speaking on the push for the creation of Anioma State, Nwoko referenced remarks by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reaffirming his support for the proposal. He added that the proposed state would have its capital in Asaba, while Delta State would retain a capital of its choice. Nwoko and Omo-Agege later departed the airport for Obio to attend the funeral of former Delta State Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue.
