Oborevwori Urges Delta Councillors to Drive Local Development

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on local councillors to embrace accountability and transparency as Nigeria moves to strengthen grassroots governance.

Speaking at a councillors’ symposium in Asaba, the governor said full autonomy for local governments—recently affirmed by the Supreme Court—marks a new chapter in national development.

He urged councillors to prioritise sanitation, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, adding that local governments must take the lead in securing their communities through regular engagement with security agencies.

The event was attended by key political figures, including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker of the State Assembly.
