Oborevwori Targets Corrupt Civil Servants, Queries Two Officials

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has taken decisive action against two civil servants accused of collaborating with contractors to certify uncompleted or substandard government projects for payment. The move comes as part of the Governor’s ongoing push for greater accountability and transparency in the state’s public sector.

Oborevwori disclosed the development during the retirement thanksgiving service of Mrs. Joy Enwa, Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General of the Delta State Ministry of Finance, at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Asaba.

Speaking to the congregation, the Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Deltans receive full value for every public project.

“We will not tolerate any form of compromise when it comes to the quality of government projects,” Oborevwori said. “The two engineers involved in certifying incomplete works have been queried, and this serves as a warning to anyone who may be tempted to engage in such fraudulent practices.”

The Governor noted that his administration is firmly committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring that public funds are spent efficiently and transparently. His statement also highlighted the broader context of reforms underway in the state civil service.

During his address, Oborevwori made a reference to the homily theme, “The Choice of a Good Name,” delivered during the service. He expressed appreciation for the message, noting that it resonated with his administration’s focus on integrity and the importance of public servants maintaining ethical standards in their professional conduct.

The Governor also took the opportunity to remind the congregation of the steps his government has taken to support civil servants since he took office. These include the provision of transport allowances following the removal of fuel subsidies, clearing over N5.6 billion in promotion arrears, and being the first state in the country to implement the New National Minimum Wage.
