Delta State IGR Surpasses N110 Billion
Delta State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has exceeded N110 billion annually under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, marking a major increase from N70 billion in the previous administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, at the weekend highlighting the strategic fiscal policies driving the growth. However, Aniagwu also noted that despite the rise in revenue, the percentage increase remains relatively small when compared to the state’s nearly N1 trillion budget.
“While the IGR has increased from N70 billion to over N110 billion under Governor Oborevwori, the percentage growth is in line with the expansion of the state budget, which has risen from over N700 billion to nearly N1 trillion,” Aniagwu said.
The Commissioner stated that the administration’s focus is not on burdening residents but on expanding the tax base but to empower residents to contribute to the economy of the state by improving human capital and integrating new communities.
Aniagwu also stressed that the aim is for taxation to directly benefit the public, ensuring that citizens feel the impact of their contributions.
