Oborevwori Issues Resignation Order to Appointees Joining 2027 Polls
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered political appointees interested in contesting the 2027 general elections to step down from their positions on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu. The statement noted that the move follows the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.
It explained that the directive applies to all categories of political appointees intending to participate in party primaries or seek nomination for elective offices. Those affected include commissioners, advisers, directors-general, executive assistants, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants to the governor, and other political appointees serving in the state.
The statement further directed all affected officials to submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before the deadline. They are also expected to formally hand over responsibilities to the permanent secretary or the most senior career officer in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
