Oborevwori Flags Off Festival of Projects in Warri South

Wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori has commissioned the reconstructed section of Igbudu market in Warri South Local Government Area on Friday, March 28.

The market, which was devastated by fire in July 2024, was officially handed over to traders following extensive rebuilding effort by the Local Council.

The event also witnessed the disbursement of ten million naira cheque to various market groups, including the Market Traders Association, Spare Parts Dealers Association and the Association of Nigerian Community Organisations (ANCOPS). Part of the fund will also support free WAEC and NECO enrollment for students of Warri South Local Government.

In her remark, Mrs Oborevwori commended the Warri South boss for his achievements and pledged continued support from the state government to ensure further development.

“The work being done here is a clear demonstration of what is possible when we work together for the betterment of our people,” said Oborevwori. “I am proud to see the restoration of Igbudu Market and the efforts being made to ensure that our youth have access to education and opportunities for a brighter future.”

She further advised the traders to be safety cautious to avoid the recurrence of the previous incidence.

The Warri South Chairman, Oritseweyinmi Agbateyiniro speaking earlier expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership and ongoing support in the execution of key projects across the state.

“We are here today to celebrate a historic occasion, not only for the commissioning of Igbudu Market but also as we flag off our Festival of Projects. This event marks a milestone in the development of Warri South, and we are honoured to have Her Excellency with us today,” Agbateyinmi said.

The Festival of Projects is aimed at highlighting the numerous developmental initiatives undertaken by the local government, which include infrastructure upgrades, educational support and socio-economic development efforts.

Among the initiatives highlighted were the provision of bursaries for 1,000 students from Warri South. In addition, the local government has also undertaken road beautification projects and the free enrollment of all primary school pupils for the First School Leaving Certificate Examination.

Agbateyiniro also mentioned the local government’s collaboration with the Nigerian Army and Police, including the repair of operational vehicles to enhance security in the Area.

The ceremony marked a successful collaboration between the state and local government in delivering key projects and creating a conducive environment for economic growth and community development in Delta State.
