Oborevwori Charges Delta LG Chairmen To Implement New Minimum Wage
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has urged the twenty-five Local Government Council Chairmen in the state to enforce the new minimum wage for workers in their councils.
The Governor made this call during a meeting on Tuesday with the leadership of the Delta State chapters of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Auditor General for Local Government, the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, and the Accountant-General of the State.
Governor Oborevwori noted that the recently passed Local Government autonomy law had placed additional responsibilities on councils. He stressed the importance of implementing the new minimum wage for workers, effective November 2024.
The Governor called on the Council Chairmen to fully comply with the procurement law in all their transactions. He also recommended organizing a retreat aimed at educating relevant officials on financial management issues, with active participation from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
