Nurses’ Strike Disrupts Healthcare Services in Bayelsa

Public healthcare services in Bayelsa State have been severely affected as nurses commenced a seven-day warning strike on Wednesday.

The strike, organised by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), has led to closures of health centres and hospitals, leaving patients unattended.

At the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, patients reported long waits and limited access to care.

NANNM Chairman at the hospital, Mr Liberia Woyengibarafagha Progress, said the strike aims to press the government to meet demands including the gazetting of the nursing scheme of service, salary reviews, and provision of medical equipment.

He added that nurses have faced persistent challenges due to inadequate resources and poor working conditions.
