NUPRC Projects Further Increase in Oil Production

Nigeria’s efforts to boost crude oil production gained momentum this week after NUPRC Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe concluded a technical inspection of the EMEM FPSO undergoing conversion at Dubai Drydocks World. The vessel is slated for deployment to the Okwok Field offshore Nigeria.

Komolafe spent hours assessing vital components of the FPSO, including processing units and power systems, to determine its readiness for sail away. He said the project supports Nigeria’s One Million Barrels initiative and reaffirmed the regulator’s willingness to back Oriental Energy as it expands operations.

The visit coincided with fresh output data from NNPC Limited, which pegged national production at 1.7 million barrels per day. The company’s head, Bashir Ojulari, announced long-term targets of 2 million barrels per day by 2027 and 3 million thereafter.

Production levels have fluctuated this year due to operational setbacks and disruptions linked to labour tensions involving the Dangote Refinery and petroleum sector unions, according to OPEC figures.
