No Shop Allocations Yet -Udu Council Warns Against Harbour Market Fraud
The Udu Local Government Council has issued a public warning to residents over ongoing scams involving fake shop allocations at the yet-to-be-commissioned Udu Harbour Market.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, Comr. Henry Ubus, the Council revealed that some individuals are fraudulently collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretense of securing shops in the new market. It clarified that the market is still under construction and has not been officially opened, stressing that neither the Delta State Government nor the Udu Council has given anyone the authority to allocate shops.
The Council further stated that no committee, management team, or market master has been appointed to handle allocations at the site. It cautioned that anyone paying money to such fraudsters does so at their own risk and stands to lose both their funds and any claim to a shop.
Executive Chairman, Olorogun (Hon.) Ogheneruemu Oyibode Vincent, assured residents that the market will be completed and properly commissioned soon. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to due process and transparency, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons to the Udu Local Government Council, the Delta State Ministry of Trade and Investment, or the nearest police station.
