NLC Protest: Delta Govt Assures Workers on Security Concerns

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest in Asaba as part of a nationwide action to draw attention to growing insecurity across the country. The workers later marched to Government House, where they presented their concerns to the Delta State Government.

Receiving the protesters, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo, conveyed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s position that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration. He said security is central to governance and a key pillar of the MORE Agenda, stressing that development cannot thrive without safety.

Erijo noted that Delta State continues to enjoy relative calm when compared with several other parts of the country, adding that the protest reflected solidarity with Nigerians facing serious security challenges elsewhere. He also pointed out that the Federal Government is fully aware of the situation and is taking steps to tackle inherited security problems.

While commending the NLC for conducting the protest peacefully, Erijo assured the workers that their demands would be forwarded to relevant authorities, including the Presidency. Earlier, the Delta NLC Secretary, Comrade Acrobat Enekhawore, urged stronger cooperation between federal and state governments to restore public confidence and improve national security.
