Nigerians Slam NNPC Over N910 Petrol Price

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) is facing growing public backlash after it announced a pump price reduction to ₦910 per litre, a move many Nigerians say falls short amid worsening economic hardship.

The announcement was part of NNPC’s 100-day scorecard, celebrating the tenure of its Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari. However, the public reaction has been overwhelmingly critical, with many accusing the company of prioritizing public relations over meaningful change.

On X (formerly Twitter), the hashtag #NNPC100Days trended briefly as users voiced frustration over persistent fuel shortages, high costs, and lack of transparency. Critics also questioned the progress of refinery rehabilitation efforts, pointing out that major facilities like Warri and Port Harcourt remain largely inactive.

The Senate is also investigating ₦210 trillion in unaccounted funds, adding to public skepticism about the company’s financial stewardship.

While NNPC cited ambitious goals such as boosting oil production to two million barrels per day by 2027 and attracting $30 billion in investment by 2030, critics say the plans lack clear benchmarks and measurable progress.
