Nigerian Navy Destroys Illegal Refining Sites in Delta
The Nigerian Navy has dismantled four illegal oil refining sites in Delta State, seizing thousands of litres of stolen crude oil and illicitly refined diesel. The operation, which took place on 26 February, was carried out by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos in the Obodo area of Omadino Community, Warri South West Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Navy uncovered approximately 2,500 litres of stolen crude oil and 2,200 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). These materials were stored across five ovens, 11 dugout pits, and 25 polythene sacks.
The raid is part of Operation Delta Sanity II, a broader initiative aimed at tackling crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other forms of economic sabotage. The Nigerian Navy said it remains committed to protecting the country’s oil resources and ensuring the security of its maritime environment.
Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, issued a strong warning to those involved in illegal refining: “Economic saboteurs in the oil sector must desist from these unlawful activities. We will stop at nothing to deny them freedom of action and ensure they face justice.”
