Nigerian Navy Cracks Down Illegal Refinery Sites in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has successfully deactivated multiple illegal refinery sites in Rivers State, as part of its ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY.
The Navy detailed the operation’s recent successes on Friday via a social media statement
“On Wednesday 22 January 2025, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER discovered and deactivated numerous illegal refining sites around Kubufari Community, Degema LGA, Rivers State.”

NNS PATHFINDER, also discovered a major illegal refinery site on Tuesday.
It contained 8 cooking pots, storage tanks, 15 dug-out pits and a reservoir laden with a large amount of illegally siphoned Crude Oil within Kubufari Community.
The Navy’s efforts are part of a broader crackdown on illegal oil refining operations, which continue to pose a major environmental and security threat in the Niger Delta region.
