Nigerian Army Raises Soldiers’ Daily Food Allowance to N3,000

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, has approved an increase in the Daily Ration Cash Allowance for Nigerian Army personnel from N1,500 to N3,000, effective end of March.

Oluyede announced the increase during a visit to the 81 Division in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, February 26, where he also highlighted the Army’s efforts to address housing challenges for retiring personnel.

He confirmed that the Nigerian Army is rolling out affordable housing schemes in Abuja, Ibadan, Jos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Akwa Ibom, with homes priced below market value.

Additionally, Oluyede introduced a new low-interest loan scheme for soldiers, offering a 3% interest rate—far lower than commercial banks.

“I want to advise that if you don’t truly need it, or if you are not in urgent need, it’s best not to take it. It is easy to obtain but difficult to repay. That said, it is available to you, it is your right, and you can apply for it at any time. Once approved, you will receive it as quickly as possible,” he added.

The Army Chief also reassured soldiers that the distribution of uniforms, which had previously been a challenge, is underway, with 100,000 kits being allocated monthly. Further distributions will cover additional divisions, with more sets expected by year-end.

Oluyede urged continued dedication from soldiers, emphasizing their role in the Army’s success.
