Mother Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Baby Into River

A Nigerian nursing mother, Blessing Ibuku, has been arrested in Delta State for allegedly killing her 10-month-old child, Prevail Jonathan, by throwing the baby into the river.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, disclosed this on Tuesday, December 17 while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Asaba.

The incident occurred on November 31, 2024, after Ibuku reportedly faced mockery from her friends over her child being fatherless.

According to police, she confessed to the crime, saying she acted out of frustration after being ridiculed by those close to her.

The child was reported missing on December 4, 2024, sparking an investigation. Police later received information about a body discovered floating in a river near the Aviara community, Isoko South Local Government Area. Upon examination, it was confirmed that the body belonged to the missing child.

The police have assured that Ibuku will be charged in court soon.
