Lawmaker Calls for Urgent Action on Erosion Crisis In Delta State
The representative for Ndokwa Ukwuani Federal, Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, has urged the federal government to take swift action to combat the erosion crisis in Onyah community, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State.
The motion presented by Ezechi on September 26, in the House of Representatives, outlined the severe consequences of erosion in the area, which has led to the destruction of homes, schools, markets, and other vital community infrastructure, jeopardising the community’s future.
The motion, which received unanimous support from the House, led to resolutions that called for immediate relief efforts and long-term strategies to protect Onyah from further degradation. The House has requested the federal government to deploy relevant agencies, particularly the Ecological Fund Project, to address the urgent crisis.
Ezechi highlighted the critical nature of the situation, warning that the community faces the imminent threat of being entirely displaced by this natural disaster. He emphasized the need for prompt intervention to prevent additional destruction and dislocation of residents.
This motion marks a significant step toward addressing the erosion crisis in Onyah, with hopes that the federal government will respond by providing relief and sustainable solutions for the affected residents.
