Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Apologizes for Assaulting Bolt Driver
A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has issued a public apology after assaulting e-hailing cab driver Stephen Abuwatseya at his Abuja residence on Sunday.
In a statement, Ikwechegh expressed regret over the incident, stating it does not reflect the values he strives to uphold as both a citizen and a lawmaker. He also pledged to tackle the “underlying issues” related to his actions through counseling and announced his intention to engage in community service initiatives focused on promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.
Ikwechegh further confirmed that alternative dispute resolution methods have been explored and that he is committed to following through on the agreed resolution. The lawmaker also apologised to the Inspector General of Police for his comments during the altercation.
The apology comes in the wake of widespread condemnation on social media, following the release of a video showing Ikwechegh assaulting the driver and threatening him after he was asked to approach the car to deliver a package.
