Killings: Abuja Security Tightened as Police, DSS Patrol Churches

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has initiated coordinated patrols of churches across Abuja in response to heightened global scrutiny over alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria. The move follows international backlash and fresh diplomatic strain caused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of potential military action against Nigeria.

FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said on Monday that operatives, alongside the Department of State Services, local hunters, and vigilante groups, conducted a special patrol across forested border communities linking Bwari, Kaduna, Niger State, and Gwagwalada. The operation, which spanned from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., aimed to deter criminals and boost confidence among worshippers.

Church leaders were briefed on security awareness, including limiting late-night activities and maintaining direct communication with security agencies. The Commissioner of Police also ordered the blocking of routes often used by criminal elements and reinforced security posts within forest zones.
