JAMB Says 1.5 Million UTME Candidates Scored Below 200
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released a detailed breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, showing the performance of nearly two million candidates across Nigeria.
According to the figures released by the Board, a total of 1,955,069 candidates took part in this year’s examination. Of that number, more than 1.5 million scored below 200 out of the maximum 400 marks.

Only a small fraction of candidates attained the highest scores. Also, 4,756 students scored above 320, while a further 7,658 achieved marks between 300 and 319.
The Board also revealed that 40,247 candidates below the typical examination age were allowed to sit for the test under a special provision to assess exceptional ability. However, only 467 of these underage candidates representing 1.16% met the criteria set for exceptional performance. JAMB noted that their results would be further evaluated in three subsequent assessment stages.
The release comes amid ongoing scrutiny of education standards in the country.
