JAMB Admits 2025 UTME Errors in Tearful Apology
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has conceded that mistakes were made during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after widespread complaints from candidates and parents over unexpectedly low scores.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede became emotional during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, acknowledging problems with the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” he said, visibly distressed. “We set all machineries in order, regardless, there were still errors.”
More than 1.9 million candidates sat for the exams earlier this year, but over 1.5 million reportedly scored below 200 out of a possible 400 prompting concern across the country.
JAMB said it had received an unusually high volume of complaints over score discrepancies and is currently investigating the issue.
The nature of the errors has not yet been disclosed, but the registrar assured the public that the board was taking the matter seriously and would provide further details in due course.
