Izeze Defends ₦8bn Isoko Project Amid Local Dispute
Delta State Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze, says the ongoing reconstruction of the Uzere–Asaba–Ase Road and bridge project, valued at about ₦8 billion, reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive governance. Speaking during an inspection in Isoko South Local Government Area, Izeze said the project is designed to link rural communities and improve the movement of residents and farm produce.
He noted that the intervention was prompted by the daily challenges faced by people in the area, especially women who struggle to transport agricultural goods across difficult terrain. According to him, the governor’s development agenda covers all parts of the state, regardless of ethnic background or location.

The commissioner said the project is over 60 per cent complete. It includes the reconstruction of failed culverts, rehabilitation of a 4.35-kilometre stretch of road, and the construction of a 100-span bridge with an 80-metre main span and an additional 20-metre extension across swampy areas. He added that contractors have been directed to follow the approved design strictly.
Izeze also raised concerns about alleged efforts by a local family to obstruct the project and urged them to cooperate in the interest of the wider community. The inspection team, which included Acting Permanent Secretary Engr. Solomon Aghagba, carried out an on-site assessment to ensure work proceeds in line with the amended contract terms.
