Itsekiri Youths Petition Tinubu, Demand Review of Warri Ward Delineation

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Worldwide (UIY) has petitioned President Bola Tinubu over the ongoing controversy surrounding the ward delineation exercise in the Warri Federal Constituency, calling for an immediate review of the process. In an open letter, UIY argued that the delineation carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to reflect the historical and political realities of the area.

The group alleged that the exercise was flawed and lacked transparency, claiming it introduced distortions capable of undermining fair representation in the constituency. They urged the Federal Government, Delta State Government, and relevant institutions to launch an independent and transparent review involving all critical stakeholders in order to restore public confidence in the electoral process.

The group also reacted to a joint press conference held on May 4, 2026, by representatives of the Ijaws and Urhobos  in the constituency. The gathering pushed for the immediate implementation of the disputed delineation outcome despite ongoing objections and unresolved concerns surrounding its legitimacy.

UIY further raised alarm over statements made at the event, particularly a one credited to Olorogun Victor Okumagba suggesting that denying political participation could force people to seek “other road.” The group noted that such comments could be interpreted as a threat to peace and called on security agencies to investigate the matter and question those involved in the press conference.

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths reaffirmed their commitment to peace and democratic engagement, adding that disputes over ward delineation should be resolved through dialogue, legal processes, and institutional channels. The group, however, warned that any attempt to attack Itsekiri communities would be strongly resisted while urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the Warri Federal Constituency.
