IGP Orders Nationwide Audit of Police Arms, Ammunition

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced a nationwide audit of arms and ammunition following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to all Commissioners of Police across the country.

The directive was announced during an emergency meeting with senior police officers and members of the press at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre. The audit is expected to review the handling, documentation, and deployment of weapons and ammunition in police commands and formations nationwide.

The IGP said the exercise is intended to improve accountability within the Force, address operational lapses, and prevent the misuse of police arms. He added that the process would also strengthen the operational capacity of the police in tackling security challenges across the country.

Police Commissioners have been directed to ensure the audit is conducted professionally and transparently, while comprehensive reports are submitted to the Force Headquarters within the approved timeframe. The police leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing institutional reforms aimed at promoting discipline, transparency, and efficiency within the Force.
