INEC Launches Voter Education Roadshow in Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will officially begin its voter education roadshow in Bayelsa State on September 11, aiming to boost participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). The initiative, coordinated by the Voter Education, Publicity, and Gender Department, will engage both urban and rural communities through drama, music, and interactive outreach to raise awareness about the CVR process.

Christian Utong, who leads the department, shared this update during a strategic meeting in Yenagoa with accredited Voter Education Service Providers. The roadshow is designed to inform Bayelsans about the CVR, encourage them to verify their voter status, and ensure that eligible citizens obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Utong clarified that the focus will be on those who have not previously registered, individuals turning 18, and those who need replacements for lost or damaged PVCs.

He also warned against multiple registrations, noting that the new Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) would detect such violations through fingerprint and facial recognition technology. “Our goal isn’t just to increase numbers but to ensure full participation, especially from women, youth, persons with disabilities, and hard-to-reach communities,” Utong said.

The first phase of the roadshow will launch on September 11, with INEC officials present to help resolve registration issues and verify voter statuses. The commission urged residents to take advantage of the exercise, reminding them that the PVC is the sole valid means for voting in future elections.
