Immigration Arrests 90 Illegal Immigrants in Rivers State

The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 90 illegal immigrants and four Nigerians in connection with suspected cybercrime activities. The arrests were made following credible intelligence, according to YI Abdulmajeed, the Rivers State Comptroller of NIS.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Abdulmajeed revealed that the suspects were involved in various forms of cybercrime aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians. Profiling of the individuals indicated that 85 of them are from Cameroon, five from Chad, and four are Nigerian nationals.

The suspects were arrested in a coordinated operation with other security agencies at a hideout in the state. Abdulmajeed confirmed that all 90 foreign nationals entered the country through unauthorized routes, while two Nigerians from Rivers State were found to have provided accommodation for the suspects.

The NIS Comptroller commended the efforts of the security agencies involved and reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Immigration Service to securing the nation’s borders and curbing cybercrime activities.

The arrested individuals are currently under investigation.
