Herdsmen Occupy Delta School, Education Disrupted in Uwheru

Concern is growing in Uwheru Kingdom, Delta State, after herdsmen and their cattle reportedly took over Ohoro Secondary School, forcing a halt to academic activities. The situation has affected students across Ohoro and Agadama communities, raising fears over prolonged disruption of education.

President of the Urhobo Progressive Union, Mr. Ughere Blessed, called on the Delta State Government and security agencies to intervene immediately, warning that continued inaction could worsen tensions in the area. He said the presence of cattle within the school premises has made learning impossible.

Ughere also urged the Special Adviser on Livestock and Inter-Ethnic Relations, Chief Jerry Azagba, to address the matter, stressing that failure to act could undermine the state government’s broader development efforts. Appeals were equally made to lawmakers and local government officials from the area to protect community interests.

Uwheru Kingdom relies heavily on agriculture, with fish farming alone generating billions of naira annually. Community leaders warned that encroachment on schools and farmlands threatens education, livelihoods, and food security, urging swift action to prevent residents from resorting to self-help.
