Heated Exchange Erupts in Senate Over Tax Reform Bill
A heated exchange disrupted today’s Senate plenary after a contentious debate over the Tax Reform Bill, which was not included in the day’s agenda.
The row erupted when Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele proposed inviting experts to address the Chamber on the Bill, citing the Senate Standing Rules. His motion was seconded by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to allow the visitors into the session.
However, Senator Ali Ndume strongly opposed the move, arguing that Senate Rules forbid visitors from addressing the Chamber on matters not listed in the Order Paper. Despite his objections, Ndume was overruled, and the visitors were permitted to speak on the proposed Tax Reform Bill.
