Gumi Criticises Foreign Interference, Calls for Calm Amid Insecurity

Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has urged Nigerians to give authorities more time to tackle insecurity, citing recent improvements along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Speaking at an event in Oyo State under police protection, Gumi noted that kidnappings along the once-dangerous highway have dropped sharply. He acknowledged that no government can completely eliminate terrorism, drawing a comparison to incidents in the United States, and called for patience from the public.

Gumi also warned against foreign leaders, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, exploiting religious tensions related to attacks on Christians to divide Nigeria or take advantage of northern resources such as lithium and cobalt.

His comments have sparked criticism from those who argue that insecurity in Nigeria remains severe and far from resolved, particularly in northern regions where kidnappings, banditry, and communal clashes continue to affect communities.
