Fubara Vows to Press On with Budget Re-Presentation After Assembly Denial
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his commitment to re-present the state’s 2025 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly despite being denied entry to the Assembly quarters on Wednesday. The incident occurred as the governor was set to re-present the budget, as directed by the Assembly following a Supreme Court verdict on February 28, 2025.
Fubara, who was addressing residents of Khana Local Government Area during the commissioning of health facilities shortly after the drama at the Assembly quarters, emphasized that he had informed the Speaker of the Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, of his intention to visit. However, upon arrival, he was denied access to the premises.
“I still believe, maybe, they might be instructed later. If they are instructed, I’m still ready to come any day to get this particular issue sorted out,” Fubara said.
The Rivers State Government also issued a letter notifying the Assembly of the governor’s intended visit. This follows a series of decisions made by the Supreme Court on February 28, 2025, which addressed the state’s long-standing political disputes.
In one of its ruling, the Supreme Court, led by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, affirmed the validity of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Amaewhule. The Court ruled that the Assembly should resume sitting immediately with Amaewhule as Speaker.
