Egrangbene Pere-Elect Dies Amid Prolonged Kingship Dispute

The Egrangbene Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Pere-elect, Henry Ambakederemo Okrikpa, known as Egbine-Agbe, Daufa I. He passed away at the age of 70 after a period of illness, bringing to a close a prolonged kingship dispute that had lingered in the riverine community for over a decade.

Okrikpa was elected and crowned on September 16, 2009, amid deep divisions within the community. His emergence sparked a controversy that prevented official recognition by the Delta State Government, leaving the kingdom without formal state-backed leadership despite his installation.

In a statement released to the public, the Okruzi of the Egrangbene Autonomous Communities, Chief Felix Krokeme Maku, confirmed the monarch’s passing. He is survived by three children, grandchildren, and several relatives.

The community has declared a period of general mourning, with burial arrangements to be announced later. Chief Oboye Omonibeke, Regent of the proposed kingdom, is expected to communicate further details as consultations continue among community leaders.
