Edo Suspends NULGE Elections Over Violent Disruptions
The Edo State Government has suspended elections into local branches of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) following violent disruptions and allegations of candidate imposition.
Reports indicate that gun-wielding thugs stormed election venues in some councils, attacking delegates and destroying ballot materials. Several injuries were reported.
The State Local Government Commission, citing safety concerns, ordered the immediate halt of all NULGE elections across the 18 local government areas.
It promised consultations with stakeholders before any new election date is announced, warning that the integrity and security of the process must be restored.
