Edo State Gets New Police Commissioner
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has recommended the appointment of Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the substantive Commissioner of Police for Edo State and Miller Gajere Dantawaye as the substantive Commissioner of Police for Kogi State.
A statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, clarified that the appointments come as the current commissioners for both states, CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha of Kogi and CP Peter Umoru of Edo, are set to retire in the coming weeks. CP Onuoha will retire on January 22, 2025, while CP Umoru will retire on January 25, 2025.
Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, the recommended appointee for Edo State, has had a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force. She began her service in Bauchi State Command and has held various positions, including Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Plateau and Edo Commands, Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration in Kebbi State, and Area Commander in Rivers and Imo States. She is currently serving as the Commissioner of Police Administration at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja.
The PSC’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), commended the new recommendations, urging both Otimenyin and Dantawaye to remain committed and dedicated to their duties in the respective states. The PSC affirmed that it will continue to monitor the progress of the recommended appointments and encourage the appointees to provide their best service to the public.
The recommendation for the appointment of the two Commissioners has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for implementation, in a letter signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Commission’s Secretary, Warri Sentinel learnt.
