Edo Election Results Confirm Obaseki’s Unpopularity -Shaibu
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has stated that the results of the recent governorship election affirm his claims about the unpopularity of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu made the statement on Monday during a program on Arise TV, while reacting to the outcome of the Edo State governorship election.
He asserts that Obaseki has never won an election independently, suggesting that he has consistently depended on external support for his victories. Shaibu’s comments come in the wake of a rift with Obaseki over his aspirations to run in the 2024 gubernatorial election.
He urged the Governor to reflect on the circumstances surrounding the election and to apologize to the citizens of Edo State, especially to those he had removed from his administration.
In the state governorship election held on Saturday, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 291,667 votes against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
