DESOPADEC Contractors Hail Oborevwori for N8.4bn Debt Payment
Contractors under the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Indigenous Contractors Forum have expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the release of N8.4 billion to settle long-standing contract debts.
Engr. Ogie Samson, chairman of the forum, said the payment, covering liabilities from 2010 to 2023, shows that the governor listens to the concerns of stakeholders and values the contributions of local contractors. “We are grateful for this gesture. It demonstrates that the governor is responsive to our needs,” he said.
Samson urged the governor to further include forum members in future state contracts, emphasizing their role in developing oil-producing communities. He also commended DESOPADEC officials, including MD Chief Festus Ochornogho, EDFA Chief Kome Okpobo, and Board Chairman Chief John Nani, for fostering positive relations between the agency and contractors.
The contractors hope the payment will restore confidence, stimulate grassroots development, and ensure timely completion of projects, while calling on the governor to continue supporting local businesses in Delta State.
