Delta’s First Lady Holds Free Health Care for Special Needs Kids
Children with special needs and their caregivers in Delta South Senatorial District on Tuesday benefited from a free medical outreach spearheaded by the Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori. The programme, organised through her You Matter Charity Foundation in partnership with the Delta State Ministry of Health, took place at Dom Domingos College, Warri.
Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative seeks to promote autism awareness, tackle stigma and advance inclusion and equal rights for persons living with disabilities. She stressed the need for sustained advocacy to ensure that children with special needs receive adequate care, support and opportunities to thrive.
She explained that the outreach is designed to cover the three senatorial districts of the state, noting that the programme had earlier been held in Ughelli, Delta Central, where assistive devices, medications and learning materials were distributed. The Governor’s wife appreciated local government leaders, health officials and medical teams for their support and commitment, while encouraging parents and caregivers to continue showing patience, love and understanding.
In her remarks, the Foundation’s Director-General, Mrs. Lawrentta Ogbedo, said the intervention would help reduce the financial and emotional strain on families, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and continuous care. The event featured free medical consultations, health talks, awareness sessions on autism and disability rights, as well as the distribution of wheelchairs, medications, assistive devices and educational materials to beneficiaries.
