Delta Youth Enlistment Committee Submits Report to Gov. Oborevwori
The Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment in Military and Paramilitary Services has presented its report to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The presentation took place on Monday, September 23, and was received by Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government.
Emu expressed concern over the declining interest of Delta youths in military and paramilitary careers, which has left recruitment slots unfilled. He assured that the report would be passed to the governor for action, stressing the urgency of making the most of the recruitment opportunities available.
Emu noted the alignment of these careers with the state’s MORE Agenda, aimed at job and wealth creation, and called for continued awareness campaigns. He also mentioned an increase in successful army recruitment from 80 in 2023 to 137 this year, crediting media campaigns for the improvement.
Warri Sentinel gathered that the committee, led by Youth Development Commissioner ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, engaged key stakeholders, including traditional rulers and local councils, in developing its recommendations.
The report features input from various top state officials, including the Commissioners for Works and Information.
