Delta State Govt Denies Neglect Claims Amid Udu Protests
The Delta State Government has dismissed allegations of neglect following recent youth-led protests in Udu Local Government Area, attributing the unrest to politically motivated misinformation ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said certain political actors were inciting unrest ahead of forthcoming elections by spreading false narratives.
“We welcome constructive criticism, but what we’ve seen in Udu is an attempt to mislead the public for political gain,” Mr Aniagwu said. “The Oborevwori administration is committed to transparency and equitable development across all parts of the state.”

The government cited a number of infrastructure and education projects in Udu, including the construction and rehabilitation of over 27 kilometres of roads and 24 kilometres of drainage systems. These projects, according to Aniagwu, link Udu to neighbouring councils such as Uvwie, Ughelli South and Warri South-West.
In the education sector, he listed several ongoing projects, including the construction of a JAMB ICT Centre at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School, renovation of classrooms in multiple communities, and new facilities at Aladja Grammar School and Otor-Udu Secondary School.
“These are tangible, verifiable projects. The suggestion that Udu has been overlooked is simply not true,” he said.
Mr Aniagwu called on young people to remain vigilant against misinformation and to acknowledge the visible progress being made in their communities.
