Delta Pupils Crowned National School Sports Champions

Delta State has emerged champions of the Basic Education School Sports Competition in Abuja, once again confirming its leadership in grassroots athletics. The team clinched the top spot with 13 points, ahead of Ekiti and Enugu.

The young athletes, received in Asaba by SUBEB Chairman Hon. Samuel Mariere, were praised for their grit and unity. Mariere noted that the players, drawn randomly from schools across the state, overcame the odds to claim victory.

He announced that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved a statewide school sports programme covering multiple disciplines, with competitions set to hold across local councils before a grand finale in Asaba.

Sports Officer Joshua Akporiaye added that Delta’s triumph has earned the state the honour of representing Nigeria at the forthcoming CAF Under-15 tournament, further establishing its legacy as a cradle of champions.
