Delta Police Intercept Arms Smuggling Operation, Arrest Six

A routine stop-and-search by the Delta State Police Buffalo Patrol Team resulted in the interception of a vehicle carrying firearms and ammunition on January 22, 2026. The team, stationed at the Head Bridge boundary between Delta and Anambra States, flagged down a green Toyota Sienna.

Despite the occupants’ claims of visiting to welcome a religious leader, a thorough search uncovered a stockpile of weapons, including three pump-action guns, a locally made dane gun, a battle axe, and 26 live cartridges.

The police arrested six suspects during the operation: Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (62), Agbata Mathew (35), Osita Chineye (39), Favour Peterson (23), Prince Tochukwu (32), and Clement Nwakwa (51). They remain in custody as investigations into the illicit arms trade continue. Authorities are intensifying their efforts to curb the flow of illegal weapons into the region.
