Delta Ijaw Confer Prestigious Title on Oborevwori
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured with the traditional title Ijaw-ebidou-owei by the Ijaw ethnic nationality in recognition of his efforts in developing riverine communities across the state.
The title, which translates to “The one who seeks the wellbeing of the Ijaw nation,” was conferred by the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Council during a ceremony held in Bomadi, the headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area. Chairman of the council and Ebenana-owei of Ogulagha Kingdom, HRM Joseph Timiyan, said the honour reflects the Ijaw people’s appreciation of the governor’s inclusive leadership and focus on oil-producing communities.
President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, noted that the gathering also provided an opportunity to commend the governor’s performance, adding that Delta Ijaw people remain committed to supporting his re-election bid in 2027. Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, who attended the event, also acknowledged Oborevwori’s contributions, noting that the Ijaw nation would remember his impact on riverine development.
The event also featured an endorsement of the governor as the preferred candidate of Delta Ijaw for the 2027 general elections. The motion, moved by Hon. Julius Pondi and seconded by Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor, was adopted through a voice vote presided over by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor. In his response, Oborevwori assured that key projects, including the Ayakoromor Bridge, would be delivered within his first tenure, reaffirming his commitment to the development of riverine areas.
