Delta Govt Arraigns Two Suspects for Murder of Retired Justice Okogwu
The Delta State Government has begun legal proceedings against two individuals accused of murdering retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu. Godwin Mngumi, a 25-year-old security guard, and Nnaji Abalum appeared on Tuesday before the Delta State High Court in Asaba, where they were arraigned on a four-count charge including armed robbery, conspiracy, and murder.
The charges stem from an incident on November 27, 2025, at the late jurist’s residence in Asaba, where she was allegedly attacked and killed. Justice Okogwu was a retired member of the Delta State Judiciary, and her death has drawn significant attention to security concerns within the state.
During the court session, the prosecution team, led by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, announced that investigations were complete and affirmed the government’s dedication to securing justice. The defendants, through their legal representatives, entered pleas of not guilty to all charges brought against them.
Presiding over the case, the judge has adjourned proceedings until April 14, 2026. This date has been set for the prosecution to formally open its case and begin presenting witnesses, marking the next phase in the legal process.
