Delta Government Issues New Dress Code for Civil Servants
The Delta State Government has issued a revised dress code for civil servants, warning against improper dressing in public offices. A circular signed by Permanent Secretary M. M. Awuse stated that the directive takes effect immediately and is aimed at promoting discipline and professionalism.
For male officers, suits are mandatory for those on Salary Grade Level 13 and above, while those on lower levels are required to appear in shirts and ties. Traditional attire will only be allowed on Fridays and during official events, but items such as papas caps and bushy beards are banned.
Female officers on higher grades must wear skirt suits, trouser suits, or corporate gowns, while those on lower levels are restricted to gowns or skirts with blouses below the knee. Outfits exposing cleavage, along with artificial eyelashes, coloured hair, and long nails, are prohibited.
The circular instructed heads of departments to ensure strict compliance, warning that defaulters will be sent home or sanctioned. The state government said proper dressing reflects the values of public service.
