Delta APC, State Government in War of Words

The political landscape in Delta State has become increasingly heated as the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government engage in a war of words, with tensions reportedly linked to speculation over Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s rumored defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

The APC has dismissed suggestions that it is interested in political opportunism, responding sharply to claims that it is a “rehabilitation camp for failed politicians.” The party further stated that it is not driven by personal gains or party affiliations, but by a commitment to leadership and sustainable development for Delta State.

In a statement issued by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party accused Governor Oborevwori of underperformance, highlighting a widespread sense of disappointment among Deltans. It also claimed that despite receiving over N50 billion in federal allocations monthly, the governor had failed to deliver meaningful progress to the state’s people.

“Governor Oborevwori’s tenure has been marred by underperformance, widespread disappointment, and the inability to deliver meaningful development to the people of Delta State,” the APC said.

While the APC acknowledged that the governor had occasionally lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development efforts, it accused him of mismanaging state resources, despite the substantial federal support Delta receives.

In a swift response, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Delta State’s Commissioner for Information, fired back at the APC, calling its statements “unintelligent propaganda” and accusing the party of being “crippled by fear” of the governor. He further claimed that the APC’s efforts to discredit Oborevwori were futile, adding that “it will not work.”

“The Delta APC is living in crippling fear of him, so we can understand why they have become sleepless and incontinent,” Osuoza said. “They are only hoping to survive through unintelligent propaganda, as they are currently engaged in. Pitifully for them, it won’t work.”
