DBS Warri, Asaba, Pointer Newspapers to Get Full Upgrade in 2026

Delta State is preparing for a sweeping upgrade of its state-owned media houses as the 2026 budget earmarks a major investment for the transformation of The Pointer Newspapers, DBS Asaba and DBS Warri.

The plan forms part of a broader push to modernise the state’s information machinery, with the Ministry of Information receiving a proposed capital allocation of ₦3 billion, more than double the previous year’s ₦1.3 billion. Officials say the jump in funding signals a shift from incremental repairs to a full-scale rebuilding of infrastructure and digital capabilities.

During the budget defence session in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, told lawmakers that the overhaul would equip the organisations with upgraded technology, improved facilities and enhanced staff capacity. He noted that the modest gains recorded in 2025 showed the need for a more ambitious, long-term strategy.

Aniagwu said the reforms are also aimed at strengthening the state’s communication network ahead of increased political activities in 2027. Staff welfare, digital transformation and professional development form the backbone of the restructuring plan.

Commissioner for Economic Planning, Sonny Ekedayen, commended the ministry’s performance and confirmed that the 2026 budget would support the overhaul fully, aligning with the state’s wider agenda to improve public information services and make its media platforms more competitive nationwide.
