Dafinone Supports Call for Creation of Anioma State

Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central in the National Assembly, has expressed support for the renewed push for the creation of Anioma State from the current Delta State.

Speaking at a media briefing in Ughelli on Monday, November 25, Dafinone said the agitation is a demand for equity and progress. He argued that the creation of Anioma State, with its capital in Delta Central, would promote regional development and create a more balanced structure for Delta State.

In September, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders from Delta North endorsed the campaign for the creation sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko.

While supporting the Anioma cause, Dafinone also stressed the significance of the agitation for the Urhobo people, a large ethnic group in Delta State, which spans over eight local government areas in Delta Central and parts of Delta South. He noted that the Urhobo community, with its vast resources, would also benefit from such developments.

The lawmaker further stated that the push for Anioma State is part of a larger effort to ensure inclusive development and representation for all ethnic groups in the region. He emphasized that the initiative is not about geography, but a commitment to equity, sustainable development, and a future where every ethnic group can thrive.
