Court Orders Temporary Halt to Fubara Impeachment Process

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Oyigbo has ordered a temporary suspension of all impeachment-related actions against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

In its ruling on Friday, the court directed the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, and the Assembly clerk to pause further steps connected to the impeachment for seven days, pending the determination of a suit before it.

The decision comes after the Assembly accused the governor and his deputy of gross misconduct and requested the Chief Judge to set up a seven-member investigative panel. The allegations include misappropriation of funds and interference with legislative functions.

Political tensions intensified as four lawmakers who earlier pushed for reconciliation returned to support the impeachment move. However, the governor’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Darlington Orji, maintained that the process lacks legal basis and will ultimately fail.
