Cargo Plane Skids Off Runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport

Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja was temporarily shut down on Wednesday morning after an Allied Air Cargo plane skidded off the runway during an emergency landing.

The aircraft, registered as 5N-JRT, made an emergency landing on Runway 22 at around 10:05 a.m. after one of its landing gears reportedly failed. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that all six crew members on board were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, securing the area, and the crash site was cordoned off under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant and other relevant agencies.

The crew members were transported to the 063 Nigerian Air Force medical unit for medical assessments. Preliminary reports suggest that the aircraft suffered a mechanical failure in its landing gear, leading to the emergency landing.

Following brief disruptions, airport operations resumed, with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other airport authorities overseeing the removal of the aircraft and inspecting the runway for safety.
