Avoid Large Transactions,’ Delta Police Warn POS Operators

The Delta State Police Command has issued a stern warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, urging them to avoid processing high-value transactions above ₦500,000, as they could be linked to criminal activities, including kidnappings.

In a recent case under investigation, a POS operator unknowingly facilitated the payment of a ₦4,000,000 ransom to kidnappers. Despite making a small profit of just ₦40,000, she now faces possible criminal charges. The Command’s Spokesperson, SP. Bright Edage stressed that the money trail would ultimately lead back to the operator, putting them at risk of arrest and prosecution.

“Don’t become a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom,” SP. Edafe cautioned in a post on X. “You may think you’re just doing business, but before your lawyer can secure your release, you could find yourself spending time in prison.”

The police command has called for heightened awareness among POS operators to avoid being used by criminals, reiterating that ignorance of the source of the funds will not shield them from the law.
